Feng Liu
Dr. Feng Liu is currently a Full Professor and Joe R. and Teresa L. Long Chair in Pharmacology at the University of Texas Health at San Antonio. Dr. Liu received his B.S. degree in Biochemistry at Wuhan University in 1982 and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Iowa State University in 1990. He did his postdoctoral training at Stanford University from 1991-1995. He joined the Department of Pharmacology at he University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as a tenure-track assistant professor in 1996, and was later promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2001 and full professor in 2005. Dr. Liu’s primary research interest is to understand the mechanisms underlying obesity-induced insulin resistance and related metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Liu has received numerous awards and honors for his research, including the Career Development Award from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the Lyndon Baines Johnson Research Award from the American Heart Association-Texas Affiliated, and the Scientific Achievement ward from the American Chinese Diabetes Association. Dr. Liu has been serving as associate editors for two scientific journals, Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology and the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Biology. He has trained numerous doctoral and post-doctoral students and is currently the Principal Investigator of two NIH-funded programs in diabetes research.
