The Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is pleased to announce the recruitment for Director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine. Laboratory Medicine is one of six Divisions in the UAB Department of Pathology. We are inviting applications from qualified candidates at the rank of Associate Professor/Full Professor for a full‐time, tenure earning/tenured position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. The candidate should have an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D., Board Certification in Clinical Pathology, and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Alabama. The successful candidate should have a national reputation in academic pathology and a track record of a funded basic, translational, and/or clinically focused research program. Prior administrative experience will be favorably considered.
The Laboratory Medicine Division includes fourteen faculty members with diverse skillsets and operational expertise. The Director is responsible for oversight of all clinical, educational, and research activities in the Division and reports directly to the Chair of the Department. Divisional faculty are noted for multidisciplinary academic productivity, grant support, and national leadership. The Division supervises over six million laboratory tests per year and has ACGME‐accredited fellowships in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and, in collaboration with the Anatomic Pathology Division, Hematopathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology fellowships, along with a full complement of residents. Research in the Division is diverse but particularly strong in translational investigations, hemostasis, and microbiology. The new Division Director will have an opportunity to recruit additional faculty in support of our research and clinical missions.
