In the 2020 CADA Virtual Meeting, the CADA Secretary Dr. Yi Tan presented this year’s CADA Achievement Award to Dr. Liangyou Rui, in recognition of his scientific achievements and contributions to CADA. Dr. Rui is the Louis G. D’Alecy Collegiate Professor of Molecular & Integrative Physiology and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. Dr. Rui is an internationally renowned scientist in the field of diabetes and metabolism. He has published more than 100 papers in high-profile journals, including Nature Medicine, Cell Metabolism, Nature Communications, Journal of Clinical Investigation. His research has been continuously supported by NIH and ADA.
Dr. Rui is recognized as an excellent teacher and mentor, a generous colleague, and a model citizen in the biomedical research society. He has mentored more than 50 trainees at all levels, ranging from high school, undergraduate, graduate, postdoc, to faculty. His contributions have been recognized by election as a AAAS fellow and sitting on NIH, VA, and ADA study sections. Dr. Rui is actively involved in multiple professional societies, including ADA and CADA. Over the years, he has generously helped with the career development of his colleagues in the CADA community. Dr. Rui’s continuous involvement and support have significantly shaped CADA to become a better platform serving its members, promoting communication and collaboration.
Dr. Liangyou Rui

Dr. Tan presented the CADA Young Investigator Award to Dr. Wenxian Fu, an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Fu is recognized as an emerging leader in the field of islet biology. He has demonstrated outstanding productivity and creativity in research. Since independence, he has published in top-tier journals, including Cell Metabolism, eLife, Cell Reports, JCI Insight. He holds multiple NIH and JDRF grants. He has made significant scientific contributions to the field of islet immunity and immune cell homeostasis in diabetes.
Dr. Fu’s teaching and mentoring records are vigorous. He has mentored 25 trainees. He has served as a session chair for national and international meetings and is actively involved in the CADA community. He is a co-organizer for CADA Happy Hour.
